What is onboarding testing?
Onboarding testing is watching someone unfamiliar with your product complete a real setup task: create an account, finish the first-project wizard, connect their data, reach the first result. You record where they hesitate, where they misread a label, and where they stop.
It is different from a demo and different from analytics. A demo goes smoothly because the person giving it knows the flow. Analytics tells you which step people leave at, but not why. A test with a new user shows you the gap between what the step asks and what they expected.
The result is the specific step that costs you signups, the reason it does, and what people tried instead. That is enough to fix the step before it reaches everyone who signs up after launch.
