What is a ranking question?
A ranking question asks people to put a set of options in order using one criterion, such as importance, usefulness, or preference. Unlike a rating scale, it does not let every option come out on top: the answer is a forced trade-off.
Every respondent places every option, with no ties, so each item gets a separate position from each person. Around five options keeps the comparison considered rather than exhausting.
The result is the average position of each option, sorted from first to last. A lower average means people placed it higher, and the gaps between averages show where the priorities really split.

Name one criterion
"Best" can mean fastest, easiest, most valuable, or most familiar. Tell people which meaning to use.
Keep the options comparable
Put items at the same level in the same list, rather than mixing a broad goal with a specific feature.
Keep the list short
Around five items is a useful working limit. Ranking gets harder, and less considered, as the list grows.

Use ranking when you need relative priority and want respondents to make trade-offs. Use a rating scale when you need an independent score for each item and it is acceptable for several items to score equally well.
04Can respondents give two items the same rank in Fiuto?
No. Fiuto asks for one complete order, so every ranked item has a separate position.
05How does Fiuto calculate ranking results?
Fiuto calculates the average position of each ranked item and sorts the results by average rank. A lower average means the item was placed higher.
06Can a ranking question be optional in Fiuto?
Yes. You can make the question optional, which lets a respondent skip it without submitting an order.
