What is a live website test?
A live website test sets one task on a real, already-live site and records the respondent's screen while they work through it in their own browser. Any URL works, including a competitor's or a page you cannot embed.
The respondent opens the study link, shares their screen when asked, and works through the task with no install and no account. When they are done, they say how easy it felt.
The result is a recording per respondent, so you see where they went, where they stalled, and what they tried instead, alongside their own rating of the task.
Run one when what you need to learn only shows up on the real thing, not on a prototype.
Is a live website test the right method?
This one is narrow on purpose. It is worth two minutes to check it is the method you want.
Reach for it when
You have a live URL and want to know whether people can finish a real task on it.

Say the screen sharing part out loud
Respondents are asked to share their screen before the task starts. Put that in the instruction, in your own words, so nobody meets it cold.
Point it at anything already live
A competitor, a production site you cannot embed, a page behind a campaign. The respondent opens the URL in their own browser, so nothing needs to be embeddable.
Frame a scenario, then get out of the way
Give people a reason to be on the site rather than a list of clicks, and let them work at their own pace. The recording shows you where the friction actually was.

Does the respondent need to install anything?

Do I need a paid plan for this?
No. Live website testing runs on the free plan, which covers one launched study a month and up to ten responses on it.
Who finds the people who take the test?
Either. Describe the audience you need and Fiuto recruits it from Prolific's global panel, with demographic filters and the total shown before you order. Or share the study link with your own respondents. The two kinds of run stay labelled separately.
How is this different from prototype testing?
A live website test points at a real, live URL that the respondent opens themselves. Prototype testing is for something that is not live yet.
