Live website test
Set a task on your live site and watch what happens
Fiuto records the screen while someone works through a task on a real, live site.Create a free live website study in minutes, no experience required.
A preview player for the live website test. It steps through the four blocks a respondent sees, and is paused on the third: the task running on your real site, with the Fiuto panel floating over the page holding the task as they move around.
What is a live website test?
A live website test sets one task on a real, already-live site and records the respondent's screen while they work through it in their own browser. You see where they went, where they stalled, and hear how easy the task felt once they were done.
Use one when what you need to learn only shows up on the real thing, not on a prototype.
Right test, wrong test
This one is narrow on purpose. It is worth two minutes to check it is the method you want.
Reach for it when
You have a live URL and want to know whether people can finish a real task on it.
You want to see where they got stuck, in their own browser, screen recorded.
You want to hear how easy the task felt once they were done.
The site is one you cannot embed, including a competitor or a production checkout.
Reach for something else when
The thing you want tested is a prototype rather than a live site. Prototype testing covers that.
You expected the site to load inside Fiuto. It does not. People open the real URL themselves.
You need respondents found for you. Fiuto does not run a panel, so you bring your own and share a link.
The audience you care about is on a phone. Screen sharing puts this test on desktop.
Three things that make it work
Say the screen sharing part out loud
Respondents are asked to share their screen before the task starts. Put that in the instruction, in your own words, so nobody meets it cold.
Point it at anything already live
A competitor, a production site you cannot embed, a page behind a campaign. The respondent opens the URL in their own browser, so nothing needs to be embeddable.
Frame a scenario, then get out of the way
Give people a reason to be on the site rather than a list of clicks, and let them work at their own pace. The recording shows you where the friction actually was.
Frequently asked questions
01Can I test a competitor's website?
Yes. The respondent opens the URL in their own browser, so the site never has to be one you control or one you can embed. A competitor, a production checkout, or a page behind a campaign all work the same way.
02Does the respondent need to install anything?
No. They open the link, share their screen when asked, and work through the task in the browser they already have.
03Do I need a paid plan for this?
No. Live website testing runs on the free plan, which covers one launched study a month and up to ten responses on it.
04Who finds the people who take the test?
You do. Fiuto does not run a panel, so you bring your own respondents and share the study link with them.
05How is this different from prototype testing?
A live website test points at a real, live URL that the respondent opens themselves. Prototype testing is for something that is not live yet.
